My elementary school kids are in year round school and were "off track" as you call it from December, right before Christmas break until January 21. Lately I have had an urge to learn to ski the right way (I have had a few attempts in the past, the last time was 15 or so years ago) and to give my children the opportunity to ski. After all, we live in Utah where you will indeed find THE GREATEST SNOW ON EARTH! My friend, Heather, whom I admire a lot as an involved and fun mommy, told me about a program at Alta ski resort she did with her son, Ben. It is the "learn to ski " program for those who have never skied. It costs $149 for four lessons, rentals and lift passes. What a deal! We jumped on it. It was so much fun. Thomas and Brinley had so much fun and were so proud of themselves when they would advance to the next level of difficulty. The pictures below were taken with my cell phone, so that would explain the quality.

This is the photo of the kids heading off to the lift on their first attempt at the real slopes. Brinley absolutely loved it and did very well. Thomas was so thrilled to go on his first run down the mountain but was a bit nervous after he did it. He probably needs another attempt and he will be just fine.
The Alta staff of teachers were completely great. I was so impressed with their program. We pretty much had private lessons the whole time. It was amazing. I personally had some great teachers that really helped me understand the technic that I needed all those years ago when my attempts at skiing were less than acceptable. We actually have one more lesson and will go again when it is not so snowy. We have had crazy snow this year, so if this tempts you at all, come to Utah and indulge in some of the greatest snow on earth.

You're so smart to take advantage of all the great snow! It is a little pathetic to live in ski country and not be a skier. Good for you!
Good job, Julie. I'm sure they loved it. Kelly wishes that I'd booked our trip to Colorado for an extra day for some ski time, but I still have my lame injured foot. So glad you are doing this! We'll have to ski together sometime.
Ok. We've just endured yet ANOTHER snowstorm and I am beginning to get a leetle sick of the snow-- even if it is "the greatest snow on Earth."
Now if we could just get Maryanne to learn to ski, you two could come up to Beaver and ski with me in our little hometown ski area! Mike and I ski there at least once a week and season passes are only $245!!! Oh, by the way, I love your opening picture on the steps? Who took it? Was it posed?
Hi Kris,
I am such a chicken skiing that I only like to do the green runs. I am too cautious to have fun with an expert like you. Thomas who was 5 at the time took the picture. We were just sitting there and Thomas asked if he could take a picture of me and so I handed him my camera.
I'm trying to remember my google login stuff, so ignore this comment.
