Nathaniel, a.k.a. Sano

Nathaniel was born in the Netherlands.

Tom took the kids camping in the desert. They made a little fire pit and had some breakfast.
Nathaniel plays the bassoon and the piano, and sometimes (if Mr. Perkins makes him), the saxophone.
Student of the Month
This is Nathaniel at the San Diego Zoo on his birthday this year.

When Nathaniel was born Morgan was only 14 months old and could not say Nathaniel's name very well. She said "Sanyo" just like the electronics company sounds like. It eventually evolved to Sano. You'd think we would just break down and call him one of the many nicknames that his name provides. None of them sound like his name though. Like Nathan. That doesn't sound the same, or Nate. Totally different. Tom sounds like Thomas, Val like Valerie, but heaven forbid any one call my sister Val. But you get what I mean. So we call him Sano quite a bit.
Nathaniel is an avid Ute fan. He goes to all the home football games with Tom. His second favorite team is of course, the Oklahoma Sooners.
Nathaniel told me he didn't like to work because it just takes too much time. Any advice for the parent wondering how in the heck to motivate a 14 year old boy? But I shouldn't complain, he makes awesome grades, plays 3 instruments, keeps his room clean (with subtle coaching), and almost has his Eagle Scout.

Nathaniel is another amazing, talented, sweet nephew that I'm thankful for. One proud moment to me about him, I shared in a letter that I wrote when he turned twelve years old, was that I am so grateful to have Nathaniel be the first in our Thompson side of the family to become a righteous priesthood holder (as we were converts when I was a bit younger than him). He leads the way for the other boys, Christopher and his brother. What honor he brings to our family, and I know he can continue to carry on this good example that he has been taught in his youth as he gets older.

Being born in The Netherlands makes Nathaniel even more impressive with his rock-solid, Dutch last name. How awesome is that to have your eldest son be born in the land of Tom's ancestors? It would be so awesome if he were to serve his mission there some day, just like his dad. That would be amazing.

Nathaniel plays the piano so well! I enjoyed listening to his rendition of Scott Joplin's music when I was there. He's a really nice young man and easy going, and an excellent leader. I see great potential in Nathaniel and am confident he will raise the bar for working hard as he gets older.

wow... I had no idea Nathaniel played the Bassoon. That's really cool! I'm in the process of becoming better at piano, and learning the guitar with my dad and brother.

Anyway... I love you! -Lindsey-
