GNO

This group started out with 12 women playing BUNKO and eating dinner at one another's houses once a month over 10 years ago. When a vacancy came open I was invited to join in maybe 8 years ago, I honestly cannot remember. As the group evolved, people moved, others joined in, the Bunko faded away. But the group hung in there. We still get together once a month and either go to a restaurant or dine at one of our houses.

When I started in the group I knew one person, my sister in law, who invited me to be in it. I didn't want to originally because I thought to myself, "I don't know these people, I will feel awkward, I should stay home that one night a month and take care of my family." But then I thought to myself, "What the heck. I don't need to take it seriously, it really is no big deal and it will be fun to make new friends after all!"

So now, 8 years later and many nights of talking, laughing and crying, these girls are some of my best friends! I enjoy our GNO so much that I have even missed one of my kids band concerts to attend. (I know what you all must be thinking!) It is my one social outing I can count on once a month. I do have others every once in a while for those of you who are starting to feel sorry for me, but this one I can count on. I love meeting up with the GNO gang.

Two of the girls have cabins that we stay at in the summer time. Sometimes we go bowling. We just have a lot of fun being silly, sharing secrets, whining about our bodies, telling about our worst fears, happiest times, worst childhood memories (remember the knife Maryanne?), botched surgeries, etc.

Fun friends! I'm just disappointed that Maryanne wasn't there for the recent photo op. What's up with that? You should have called her over to at least pose with you!

Kelly, trust me, you don't want to know.

I am in a quilting group just like this. There are 7 of us and we range from the 40's to a 70 year old. We call ourselves the Purple Cats and I am amazed what the years can do to cement friendships out of people who had never even talked to each other before!
