Remember the movie Big, with Tom Hanks? Remember the scene when he goes to the fancy party and sees the little corn and eats it like my goofball sons are doing in the above picture? We were at a Thai restaurant eating and Thomas says, "look at this little tiny corn! It's so cute" He then picked it up and started eating it like regular corn on the cob. I about died with laughter. It was just like in the movie. I, of course, always armed with a camera, said STOP!, dug my camera out of the purse and took the picture. It wasn't totally spontaneous, but nonetheless, it did actually happen.
Question: is this corn some special kind grown to maturity, or is it harvested when it is just tiny and then pickled? I don't even know what it's called to even Google it. You don't see it in the produce section. I've never seen it in a can. If anyone our there knows this perplexing question, let me know! I would love to find out.

It's not in the produce section, but in the pickles section! That's a cute picture of the silly boys.
"Baby Corn". Those tiny corncobs aren't genetically mutated dwarf ears of corn -- they're just immature ears of regular corn. They have to be picked as soon as the silk appears or within a few days. So simply, they are regular ears of corn harvested very early!
Silly, silly boys ;o)
